Abstract
Abstract The current study observed the presence of two pairs of parathyroid glands in F. catus animal, located in contact with the thyroid gland, occupying an apical peripheral site and a lateral peripheral site, and located within the thyroid gland tissue embedded in its substance. Moreover, the gland appears as lobes consist of 2-4 lobes with oval or irregular in shape and surrounded with a thin capsule consisting of colloidal and elastic fibers and a few reticular fibers. In addition, the parathyroid gland cannot be distinguished from the thyroid gland, as these sites were detected through the histological sections of the thyroid gland due to the difficulty of distinguishing the parathyroid gland and separating it with a dissecting microscope due to its small size. the parathyroid gland in F. catus is surrounded by a capsule of connective tissue that is an extension of the capsule of the thyroid gland, which consists of colloidal fibers, elastic fibers and a few reticular fibers, nuclei of smooth muscle fibers, blood vessels, and nerves ,The septa are extended from the gland which is responsible for dividing the gland into lobules; the parathyroid gland tissue consists of three types of cells represented by chief cells, which are the most common cells The chief cells appear polygonal in shape with dark color vesicular nuclei, and the cytoplasm appears containing granules that able to color with the dyes used in the current study, while the other two types are Oxiphyl cells and water-clear cells .heamatoxyline and Eosin stains (Periodic acid–Schiff stain, Masson trichrome stain) were used in the study
